We have a journal paper published from Speech Communication authored by the members of the CAL (Justine Hui and Yusuke Hioka) with our collaborators Dr Catherine Watson (Department of Electrical, Computer and Software Engineering, University of Auckland) and Dr Hinako Masuda (Seikei University, Japan). The paper studied how the acoustics of environments would affect the perception of listeners who were immersed in the target language at different ages. As more people are bi-/multi-lingual in the current society, we believe this non-native disadvantage in speech communication is an equity issue that should be addressed in various areas such as school, hospital, public transport, to name a few. Please have a look at the paper for more details of the study. The link to the paper is here.
